The Snow Queen

Kay & Gerda, two young children, are the best of friends. Then, one day, disaster strikes. A splinter of glass from a magic looking-glass pierces Kay's eye and heart. As it works its evil magic, the world becomes twisted and ugly to him. Once, happy and loving, he becomes cold and spiteful. Then, on a stormy night, the Snow Queen takes him away, turning his heart to a lump of ice and imprisoning him in her frozen Palace in the North.

Deserted by everyone, only his true friend, little Gerda, tries to rescue him. Trusting to Nature and her own instincts, she casts herself off down a river, the beginning of an amazing adventure. On her journey, she meets vicious robbers, a gloomy reindeer and a fishy old Wise Woman with an appetite for raw cod!

Will Gerda ever find Kay? Will it be too late if she does? Will Grumble the reindeer help? If somebody's heart is frozen, can another person's love melt the ice around it?

Set against a snowy landscape, this beautiful and heart-warming tale about the meaning of true friendship speaks to children of all ages. After all, who hasn't needed a true friend at some time in their lives?
